ER2C EVENT
T-FLoW and EROS Humanoid Robot Join RoboCup 2017
Nagoya, Japan on July 25 to July 31, 2017

About RoboCup and The Participation of T-FloW and EROS Humanoid

The international community of RoboCup encourages the development of intelligent robots by designing and organizing robotic competitions that scientists and students from all over the world can test and demonstrate the robots they create in attractive and realistic scenarios. RoboCup 2017 will be held in Nagoya Japan, from July 25 to July 31, 2017. RoboCup has been held annually for 21 years. RoboCup is an international robot competition that is very prestigious and observed by researchers / scientists in the field of robotics world. RoboCup is followed by more than 3500 scientists / researchers in the field of robotics from 40 countries. More information can be found at RoboCup2017.

RoboCup hosts various leagues for robot competitions:
1. Major League

  1. RoboCup Soccer is divided into Humanoid, Standard Platform, Middle Size, Small Size and Simulation.
  2. RoboCup Industrial, is divided into RoboCup Logistics and RoboCup@Work.
  3. RoboCup Rescue, is divided into Rescue Robot League and Rescue Simulation League, And
  4. RoboCup@Home, which aims to apply the technology that has been developed in everyday life.

2. Junior League

RoboCupJunior is divided into Soccer, Rescue, and Onstage. So this league is for elementary to high school students.

Major league RoboCup Soccer Humanoid consists of Kid Size Humanoid, Teen Size Humanoid and Adult Size Humanoid. EEPIS Robotics Research Center (ER2C), Electronic Engineering Polytechnic Institute of Surabaya (EEPIS), through intensive and sustainable research result. EEPIS Robotics Research Center (ER2C) has successfully built T-FLOW Teen Size Humanoid Robot and EROS Kid Size Humanoid Robot. In this RoboCup 2017 ER2C will participate in two categories of this competition.

Participants in the Teen Size Humanoid category include robot teams from Indonesia, India, Iran, Canada, Taiwan, Germany, Britain and Korea. In the Teen Size Humanoid category, this year is the first time for Indonesia to participate in RoboCup. T-FLOW Teen Size Humanoid Robot is the first teen-age humanoid robot made by Indonesia.

Participants in the Kid Size Humanoid category include robot teams from Indonesia, Iran, Germany, Britain, Japan, India, Mexico, Switzerland, China, Brazil, Korea, Australia, Romania, and France. ER2C via EROS Kid Size Humanoid Robot has been following the competition in this category since 2011 and has achieved 4 major achievements starting in 2012.

T-FLoW Teen Size Humanoid Robot Team

EEPIS Robotics Research Center (ER2C), Electronic Engineering Polytechnic Institute of Surabaya (EEPIS), through intensive and sustainable research result has successfully built T-FLOW Teen Size Humanoid Robot and EROS Kid Size Humanoid Robot. In this RoboCup 2017, to test the results of ER2C’s research, ER2C will participate in two categories of Major league RoboCup Soccer: Kid Size Humanoid and Teen Size Humanoid. More information about ER2C can be found at ER2C.

T-FLOW Teen Size Humanoid Robot is the first teen-age humanoid robot made by Indonesia. T-FLOW Teen Size Humanoid Robot Team consists of 2 robots with height of 90 cm and height of 110 cm. Where each weighs is 8.5 kg and 14.5 kg. The T-FLOW robot is built by implementing a mechanical system consisting of 24 degrees of freedom (Degree of Freedom, DoF), to allow the robot to move more flexible in order to copy the human movement. This robot is also equipped with Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensor and stereo camera sensor.

In the preparation for RoboCup competition 2017, T-FLoW Robot has been equipped with intelligence to play football.

  1. Using a stereo camera, capable of mapping the playing field, recognizing and localizing ball, goal, field line, and opponent’s robot or even friend’s robot.
  2. By combining the stereo camera and IMU sensors, the robot is able to estimate its own location within the field (Self-localization).
  3. The T-FLOW robot is able to perform basic movement of playing ball such as walking, kicking the ball, dribbling, snatching the ball from the opponent and scored.
  4. The T-FLOW robot is able to coordinate with friend’s robot to attack or defend.
  5. The T-FLOW robot is also prepared to follow the Technical Challenge in RoboCup 2017 which is kicking the moving ball, jumping, balancing itself when getting forces from the outside while it's running, and more.

The Participation of ER2C in the RoboCup 2017 competition is to test the results of research that has been achieved to date. The main results of research that is related to T-FLOW humanoid robot have been published in international scientific papers in the form of international scientific journals as well as international conferences / seminars.

EROS Kid Size Humanoid Robot Team

EROS Kid Size Humanoid Robot has been competing in this category since 2011 and reaching the world's top 4 ranking starting in 2012. This year is the sixth time EROS participated in RoboCup. With the development that has been done, it is expected to increase his achievement.
